Getting there

Shamakhi lies about 120 kilometres from Baku, on the slopes of the Caucasus. It is easy to come for a day — for antiquities, mountain air and the stars.

The road to Shamakhi is scenic, and around it lies a whole constellation of sights: from the Juma Mosque to the rock-cut Diri Baba and the observatory.

Getting there

The road and route

From Baku to Shamakhi is about 120 kilometres on a good road — roughly a two-hour drive. It is most convenient to go by car or on a tour, combining several places into one route.

On the way and nearby are the rock-cut Diri Baba mausoleum in Maraza, Gobustan and the observatory on Pirgulu. All of it is easy to combine in a single trip.
